Grange Fell Church

Grange Fell Road Grange-over-Sands

http://www.grangepcc.co.uk/

Built originally in 1907 as a mission church to provide a simple form of worship for the cottagers living in upper Grange.

It now serves a regular community offering worship from the Book of Common Prayer.

A full description of the history of Grange Fell Church is available in the church in a booklet entitled 'The History of Worship in Higher Grange', published in 2017 to mark the centenary.  The church was built by Henrietta Arkwright in memory of her sister, Sophia, and the booklet describes the interesting connection with Sir Richard Arkwright, the inventor of the English factory system.

St Paul's, Grange-over-Sands

Crown Hill Grange-over-Sands

The Parish Church sits at the heart of the town of Grange-over-Sands, next door to the clock tower at the top of the main street.  The church was built in 1853 in the Victorian Gothic style and has been enlarged over the years, particularly during the Edwardian period.  It is a light and airy building with fine light-oak paneling; beautiful stained-glass windows, particularly in the Lady Chapel and Baptistry and many interesting memorials of an historical nature.

The doors are open every day from 10 am to 4 pm, and visitors are welcome to look around and/or take time for private prayer.  There is a prayer table with cards and leaflets, and a prayer tree where names can be added for intercessions which are offered at the weekly services.

It is a warm welcoming community for all ages, and offers a variety of worship. The building is used regularly by our local Primary School with whom we have excellent relationships

At 11 am each Sunday we join together for our Parish Eucharist (Common Worship), followed by fellowship and refreshments.  On the fifth Sundays of the year we join together with the congregation of St Peter Field Broughton, St Anne Haverthwaite, St Peter Finsthwaite and St Mary Staveley, moving around the 5 churches.

Each Wednesday of the month at 10 am there is a short said service of Holy Communion, again followed by fellowship over coffee.

The main feasts and festivals of the church's liturgical year are celebrated joyfully, and the church is increasingly popular for marriages throughout the year. The church is often used for civic services, eg the annual Remembrance Service, and we are thankful for the excellent relationships with our town and local community, which we view important as part of our wider witness and service.
